Security Personnel Honored for Heroic Efforts During Thame Flood Rescue Operation
Thirteen Nepal Police personnel who played crucial roles in the rescue efforts during the Thame flood in Solukhumbu on August 16 have been awarded for their exceptional service. The District Police Office, Solukhumbu, recognized their prompt and effective actions in rescuing locals, safeguarding property, and mitigating further risks.
The honored officers include Police Inspector Laxman Giri, Assistant Sub-Inspector Khemraj Khatiwada, and Senior Constable Deepak Kumar Katawal, among others. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, Chief of the District Police Office, highlighted their efficient efforts not only in rescuing those trapped by the flood but also in disseminating crucial information and alerting residents in low-lying areas to potential dangers.
The Thame flood, which struck around 1:30 PM on August 16, was an unusual disaster in the Everest region, reportedly triggered by the outburst of two glacier lakes. The flood caused significant damage, completely destroying a school, a health post, two hotels, and 13 houses, while partially damaging 10 other houses. A 950-kilowatt hydroelectric project was also severely impacted. The outburst site was located approximately nine kilometers from Thame Bazar.
The recognition of the police personnel underscores the importance of their swift and decisive actions in preventing further loss of life and property during this unexpected natural disaster.
