Government to Provide Free Burn Treatment for Underprivileged Patients

The government has announced that it will provide free treatment for burn victims who are unable to afford medical expenses. The decision was revealed by Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, who also serves as the government spokesperson, during a briefing on the latest decisions made by the Council of Ministers.

The free burn treatment will be available at key hospitals across Nepal: BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Koshi Province, Narayani Hospital in Madhesh Province, Kirtipur Hospital in Bagmati Province, Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences in Gandaki Province, Bheri Hospital in Lumbini Province, Surkhet Provincial Hospital in Karnali Province, and Seti Provincial Hospital in Sudurpaschim Province.

According to the Ministry of Health, approximately 57,000 people in Nepal suffer from burns annually. While treatment for burns is already offered at facilities like Kirtipur Hospital, TU Teaching Hospital, Patan Hospital, Sushma Memorial Hospital, and Bir Hospital, the new initiative aims to make such care accessible to the economically disadvantaged across more regions of the country. Bir Hospital also recently reopened its burn unit to meet growing demand.

This initiative marks a significant step towards expanding access to specialized healthcare for vulnerable populations.
