Krishnaman Dangol Elected Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in By-election

Krishnaman Dangol of the Nepali Congress has been elected as the Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in a by-election held on Sunday. According to the Election Commission, Dangol secured 5,334 votes, emerging victorious in a tight race.

Dangol’s closest competitor, Shiva Sharan Maharjan of the CPN (Maoist Centre), garnered 4,555 votes, while Dr. Surendra Manandhar of the CPN (UML) secured 4,337 votes.

The by-election was triggered by the passing of Rajkumar Nakarmi, the former Nepali Congress mayoral candidate, who had passed away due to illness after being elected in the 2079 BS elections.

In addition to the top three contenders, independent candidate Rajman Maharjan received 2,036 votes, Kabi Kumar Maharjan won 1,314 votes, Dinesh Kumar Adhikari got 1,048 votes, and Dhruv Maharjan of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party secured 995 votes.

Uma Lungelimagar Sherpa Elected Vice Chair of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality

In Dolakha, Uma Lungelimagar Sherpa of CPN (UML) has been elected vice chair of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality. Sherpa secured 2,805 votes, narrowly defeating her closest rival, Nim Leki Sherpa of the CPN (Maoist Centre), who received 2,600 votes.

Bharat Ghimire of CPN (Maoist Centre) has secured the post of chair at ward no. 9 in Belaka Municipality, Udayapur, after winning 559 votes against Mohan Khadka of CPN (UML), who received 525 votes.

Similarly, Nawin Bantawa Rai of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected as the chair of ward no. 12 at Triyuga Municipality.

In Humla, Devaki Timilsina of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected vice chair of Sarkegad Rural Municipality, securing 1,637 votes. She defeated her closest rival, Sabita Budha of Nepali Congress, who garnered 1,594 votes.

Other candidates in the race included Jana Shahi of CPN (UML) with 1,132 votes, Sangita Shahi of RPP with 51 votes, Bancha Budha of RSP with 25 votes, and independent candidate Naresh Shahi with 9 votes.

The by-election in Sarkegad was held after the unfortunate passing of the former vice chair, Chandra Singh Karki, in a road accident.
