NPL: Janakpur Bolts Secure Fourth Consecutive Victory, Edge Lumbini Lions by One Run
The Janakpur Bolts continued their dominant run in the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL) with a nail-biting one-run victory over the Lumbini Lions at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. This marks Janakpur’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament, following earlier triumphs against Biratnagar Kings, Karnali Blasters, and Pokhara Avengers.
Chasing a target of 137 runs, the Lumbini Lions fell just short, managing 135 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Rohit Kumar Paudel led the Lions’ charge with a steady 35 off 38 balls, including three boundaries. Contributions from Tom Moores and Sundeep Jora added to the tally, but the remaining batting lineup struggled to reach double figures.
Janakpur’s Harsha Thokar delivered a stellar bowling performance, claiming five wickets. Kishor Mahato, Sher Malla, and Lalit Rajbansi supported him with one wicket each, ensuring a disciplined effort in the field.
Batting first, the Janakpur Bolts posted 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Captain Anil Shah anchored the innings with a top score of 45 off 39 balls, smashing one four and four sixes. Contributions from Lahiru Milantha (24), Shubh Kansakar (22), and Aasif Sheikh (16) added depth to the innings.
For the Lions, debutant Abhishek Gautam impressed with three wickets, while skipper Rohit Paudel and Saad Bin Zafar claimed two wickets each. Sundeep Jora chipped in with one dismissal.
While Janakpur celebrated their unbeaten streak, the Lions endured their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament. Lumbini previously lost to Biratnagar Kings, Pokhara Avengers, and Sudurpaschim Royals, placing them at the bottom of the points table.
The day’s second game will feature Sudurpaschim Royals taking on the Chitwan Rhinos, promising another exciting contest in the NPL.
