Embassy of India Celebrates Vishwa Hindi Diwas in Kathmandu

The Embassy of India in Nepal commemorated Vishwa Hindi Diwas on January 10, 2025, at its premises with a vibrant event celebrating the Hindi language and its cultural significance. The program saw participation from distinguished guests, including Mangal Prasad Gupta, Member of Parliament and President of Hindi Manch Nepal; Dr. Gopal Thakur, Chairman of the Language Commission, Government of Nepal; and Mrs. Nisha Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Nepal Music and Drama Pragyana Pratishthan.

Gitanjali Brandon, Counsellor (Political and PIC) at the Indian Embassy, read out a special message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting Hindi’s rich linguistic heritage and its role in fostering cultural identity. Brandon expressed gratitude to Nepali scholars and enthusiasts of Hindi, emphasizing their pivotal role in strengthening India-Nepal ties through language and culture.

The event featured participation from several schools in Kathmandu, with students presenting Hindi poetry and skits on thought-provoking themes. Artists from the Nepal Pragya Pratisthan also showcased their talents, adding to the program’s cultural richness.

An India-Nepal Maitri Kavi Sammelan was a highlight of the celebration, where distinguished poets captivated the audience with their Hindi poetry, reflecting the shared literary and cultural heritage of the two nations.

Vishwa Hindi Diwas traces its roots to the first World Hindi Conference held on January 10, 1975, in Nagpur, India. Since then, the day has been celebrated globally every year to promote the Hindi language and its global relevance.

This year’s event underscored the enduring linguistic and cultural bonds between India and Nepal, with participants celebrating the legacy and future of Hindi as a medium of unity and expression.
