Government Allocates Over Rs 107 Billion in Agricultural Grants Over Five Years
The government has distributed more than Rs 107.66 billion in agricultural grants over the past five years, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.
At a press conference on Sunday, Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari disclosed the details of grant allocations spanning fiscal years 2076/77 BS to 2080/81 BS. The beneficiaries included agricultural cooperatives, groups, and farms.
Minister Adhikari revealed that Rs 20.3 billion was allocated as direct grants to agricultural entities through various national and international projects under the Ministry. These grants aimed to enhance productivity, support farmers, and strengthen agricultural infrastructure.
In addition to direct grants, the government distributed Rs 87.35 billion as indirect subsidies, primarily for the provision of chemical fertilizers to farmers.
The Minister emphasized accountability in grant usage, warning that any misuse of allocated funds would be thoroughly investigated and punished. A dedicated panel has been formed by the Ministry to evaluate the allocation process and address irregularities.
“The government is committed to ensuring that agricultural grants serve their intended purpose of bolstering the agricultural sector and improving farmers’ livelihoods,” said Minister Adhikari.
The Ministry’s efforts aim to drive agricultural development, increase productivity, and ensure food security in the country.
