Bollywood Star Saif Ali Khan Stabbed at Home; Accused Bangladeshi National Arrested

Mumbai Police on Sunday announced the arrest of a Bangladeshi national in connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Bandra West. The accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, reportedly entered Mr. Khan’s house with the intent of theft but was unaware of whose residence he had entered, a senior police official stated.

The Attack

Saif Ali Khan, 54, was stabbed six times, including in his neck, during the early hours of Thursday morning at his apartment in the upscale Satguru Sharan complex. The actor was with his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two sons, four-year-old Jeh and eight-year-old Taimur, at the time of the incident.

Two staff members, including Eliyama Philip, a nurse caring for Jeh, were also injured in the attack.

Mr. Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw, where he underwent a five-hour emergency surgery. Doctors removed a 2.5-inch piece of the blade lodged in his spine. Hospital authorities reported on Friday that Mr. Khan is recovering well.

The Accused

The suspect, 30-year-old Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla, was apprehended from Hiranandani Estate on Ghodbandar Road in Thane district. According to police, Rohilla entered India illegally and had been living in Mumbai for four months under the alias Bijoy Das. He previously worked for a housekeeping agency but was unemployed in recent months. Rohilla resided in a rented apartment in Worli with a group of friends.

Investigation and Arrest

Mumbai Police deployed 30 teams to track down the suspect. CCTV footage from the building’s security cameras played a key role in identifying Rohilla, leading to his arrest on Sunday. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused did not recognize the residence as belonging to Saif Ali Khan and entered with the intention of theft.

Official Statements

“Our investigation revealed that the accused had no prior knowledge of the victim’s identity. He illegally entered the residence with the intention of burglary,” said a senior police official. The Bangladeshi national reportedly resisted arrest but was eventually subdued by authorities.

The attack has sent shockwaves through Bollywood and the actor’s fan base. Saif Ali Khan, known for his extensive film career, remains under medical supervision but is expected to make a full recovery. Kareena Kapoor Khan and their children are being provided additional security following the incident.
