India Successfully Undocks SpaDeX Satellites

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully undocked two satellites under its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission, marking a major milestone in India’s space technology capabilities.
The undocking operation was carried out in a single attempt at 9:20 AM (local time) on Thursday from a 460 km circular orbit with a 45-degree inclination. ISRO confirmed that both satellites are now orbiting independently, and their health remains normal.
The SpaDeX satellites, SDX01 and SDX02, were initially docked on January 16, 2025, following their launch on December 30, 2024, via the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C60) from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
A senior ISRO official highlighted that this achievement will pave the way for future space missions, including India’s planned space station, lunar exploration, and advanced spacecraft docking technologies.
ISRO stated that after extensive analysis of the docked satellites’ in-orbit performance, an undocking opportunity was identified between March 10 and March 25, 2025. The entire process was monitored through ground stations.
“This successful undocking marks a major milestone. Further experiments with the satellites are planned in the coming days,” ISRO said in an official statement.
