
Deepak Thapa Appointed as Nepal Police Chief

Deepak Thapa has been appointed as the 31st Inspector General of Nepal Police following a decision by the Cabinet today.
Thapa was among the contenders for the position, alongside Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) Sudeep Giri and Tek Bahadur Tamang. His selection was based on seniority, efficiency, and effectiveness, as outlined in police regulations.
With extensive experience serving in Kathmandu Valley, district units, and various police departments, Thapa’s tenure has been marked by professionalism and a clean record. His leadership is expected to strengthen national security and contribute to the advancement of the police force.
Meanwhile, outgoing Inspector General Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, along with eight other senior officers, retired today. Among those stepping down are AIGs Tek Prasad Rai, Kuber Kadayat, Buddhi Gurung, Durga Singh, and Janak Bhattarai, as well as Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) Ganesh Chand, Bhola Rawal, and Dhruvraj Raut, who completed 30 years of service.
