Khotang Distributes 400 Hybrid Buffalo Bulls to Boost Farming and Employment

Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality has initiated a large-scale distribution of hybrid buffalo bulls to local farmers to promote employment and increase local meat production. The municipality has allocated Rs 6.2 million this fiscal year to provide improved buffalo breeds, sourced from the Tarai region.
Deputy Mayor Bishan Rai stated that farmers would receive the buffaloes at a 75 percent subsidized rate under the local government’s agricultural program. Of the targeted 400 buffaloes, 200 have already been distributed across wards 3, 4, 5, 7, and 15, with ward 5 alone receiving livestock worth Rs 1.2 million. Farmers are required to contribute 25 percent of the cost and arrange transport for the animals.
Municipality Agriculture Section Chief Tej Prakash Jaishi emphasized that agriculture remains a top priority, with additional grants provided for cultivating fruits, coffee, and vegetables. Alongside boosting employment, buffalo farming contributes to organic compost production, supporting sustainable farming practices.
