Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Deepak Thapa was formally awarded the rank insignia during a ceremony at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday morning. Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi presented the insignia to Thapa, officially marking his appointment as the 31st IGP of Nepal Police.
Thapa’s promotion was finalized on Monday during a Cabinet meeting in Baluwatar. Following his insignia ceremony, IGP Thapa emphasized his commitment to establishing a system-driven approach over personal access. He pledged to continue crime prevention and investigation without compromise, reinforcing internal security, peace, and the rule of law across the country.
Addressing the gathering, Home Secretary Duwadi urged Nepal Police to contribute toward the national vision of “Happy Nepali, Prosperous Nepal.” He expressed confidence in Thapa’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of integrity and dedication in maintaining law and order. Duwadi highlighted that public perception of security is as crucial as its enforcement, calling on law enforcement to ensure a sense of safety among citizens.
He further noted that the government remains committed to meeting public expectations, despite growing security challenges. Stressing the need to combat rising threats, Duwadi pointed out the urgency of reducing road accidents, tackling drug abuse, and strengthening efforts against cybercrime.
