Protect unique traditional homes: Chair Bijukchhe

Chairperson of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), Narayan Man Bijukchhe, has pointed out the need for preserving the unique traditional houses.

At a public awareness programme organized by the Khwapa Engineering College on the 25th National Earthquake Safety Day here Thursday, leader Bijukchhe expressed worry over vanishing houses bearing tradition and uniqueness. He blamed it for growing construction of houses adopting modern technology.

He further said it was wrong to set up the houses reflecting traditional design for mere show. The traditional houses could be made with the use of mud, stone, woods and other natural materials, Bijukchhe argued.

Similarly, Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality Sunil Prajapati informed that the municipality was ensuring provision on quake-resistant construction by preparing standard on physical infrastructures and construction.

He believed the Khwapa Engineering College and Khwapa College of Engineering were contributing to reliable and robust construction activities by producing competent human resources. The Mayor also informed that his municipality was providing training to mason and carpenter on quake-resistant technique every year.

On the occasion, Chief District Officer in Bhaktapur, Rudra Devi Sharma, said the local levels need to protect open spaces and public places for safe settlement.

College Principals Sujan Maka and Sunil Duwal said research and study should be continued to develop quake-resistant competencies.
