Speaking after an official meeting at the President’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Tuesday, Mahat addressed recent periods of instability, stating, ‘We have reached an agreement to safeguard the political system.’ He outlined the agreement’s two-phase approach, revealing that the initial phase involves forming a coalition government under UML Chairman KP Oli’s leadership. The subsequent phase will see Sher Bahadur Deuba assuming the role of Prime Minister.

‘This agreement between the Nepali Congress and UML is geared towards political stability,’ Mahat emphasized. ‘Under Oli’s leadership, we aim to establish a government of consensus, inviting other parties to join in creating a national unity government. This decision prioritizes the national interest, including addressing economic challenges.’
