‘America Has Not Invested in Promoting Atheism in Nepal’

US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, has clarified that the United States has not invested in promoting atheism in Nepal. This statement came during his meeting with Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairperson Rajendra Lingden.

The bilateral meeting, held this morning at the RPP party central office in Dhumrabarahi, Kathmandu, delved into various issues of mutual interest between the two nations. Mohan Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson and Head of the Publicity Department of the RPP, provided insights into the discussions.

According to Shrestha, Chairperson Lingden raised concerns about rumors suggesting US investment in Nepal’s Parliament for the propagation of atheism. Ambassador Thompson swiftly addressed these concerns, affirming that the United States neither has invested nor harbors any policy to spread atheism in Nepal.

Moreover, Ambassador Thompson expressed admiration for the religious harmony in Nepal, describing it as of “excellent nature”. He also disclosed America’s policy to repatriate idols stolen from Nepal and currently housed in the United States, with intentions to restore them to their respective monasteries and temples.

In addition to clarifying these points, the meeting served as a platform for Chairperson Lingden to shed light on various dimensions of Nepal-US relations. Lingden articulated the RPP’s stance on issues such as good governance, development, and foreign investment, showcasing the party’s policies and priorities.
