Arrest Made in Sankhuwasabha Prison Deaths Case: Police Assistant Sub Inspector in Custody for Investigation

In connection with the tragic deaths of two inmates within the premises of Sankhuwasbha prison office, Police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI_ Laxmi Chaudhary has been apprehended, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

The District Police Office in Sankhuwasabha officially confirmed the arrest of ASI Chaudhary on Sunday. Furthermore, the office has obtained authorization from the District Court to detain the security personnel for a period of five days, facilitating an extensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Saroj Khanal, the arrest of Chaudhary was executed following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) by the families of the deceased individuals. This FIR, which implicated Chaudhary as well as the acting jailor Rajendra Ghimire, led to the issuance of their arrest warrants by the court.

The unfortunate victims of this incident were identified as Binod Tolangi, aged 20, hailing from Madi Municipality-5 in Sankhuwasabha, and Akash Balami, aged 28, from Kakani Rural Municipality-7 in Nuwakot. Both individuals succumbed to injuries allegedly inflicted upon them within the confines of the jail.

While ASI Chaudhary has been apprehended, the arrest of acting jailor Ghimire is currently pending. Authorities are actively investigating the potential involvement of other individuals in connection with the case.

The bodies of the deceased have been released to their respective families today, five days after the tragic incident occurred. Post-mortem examinations were conducted on Saturday to shed light on the exact causes of death.

The bereaved families have raised concerns over the possibility of physical assaults leading to the demise of the two inmates while in custody. Responding to the gravity of the situation, the Home Ministry promptly constituted a committee on August 9 to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The ongoing inquiry aims to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident and ensure justice for the victims.
