Babarmahal Flooded After Water Supply Pipe Bursts

The Babarmahal area of Kathmandu was submerged on Monday after a major water supply pipe burst on the main road, causing severe waterlogging. The incident occurred during horizontal drilling work by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for the installation of underground power supply wires.

Tika Bahadur Chaudhary, head of the Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Project Implementation Directorate, confirmed that a critical pipeline in the water supply system was damaged during the drilling process. Although the distribution valve was closed to control the leakage, water continued to flow, exacerbating the situation.

The flooding affected several government offices, including the Special Court in Babarmahal, where office premises and parked vehicles were submerged. The incident also disrupted traffic in the area, leading to long congestion on the surrounding roads.

Authorities are working to contain the leakage and restore normalcy in the affected area.
