Bagmati Province CM Set to Seek Vote of Confidence Amid Political Turmoil
The Chief Minister (CM) of Bagmati Province, Shalikram Jamkattel, is gearing up to seek a crucial vote of confidence on April 1st, as per recent developments.
A proposal to solicit a vote of confidence was formally submitted to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Friday, marking a pivotal moment in the province’s political landscape.
The decision to undergo the vote of confidence comes in the wake of the withdrawal of support from the Nepali Congress for the provincial government, adding to the already complex political dynamics.
Under the constitutional framework, CM Jamkattel is mandated to undergo a vote of confidence within 30 days under such circumstances. With a total of 110 members in the Provincial Assembly, the CM must secure a minimum of 56 votes to retain confidence and continue governing.
Anticipating the upcoming vote, CM Jamkattel is expected to garner support from key political parties including the CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), and Hamro Nepali Party.
Presently, the political landscape in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly comprises 27 lawmakers from CPN-UML, 21 from the Maoist Center, seven from CPN (Unified Socialist), and two from the Hamro Nepali Party.
