Bagmati River Festival Set to Promote Conservation and Water Tourism on August 26
The Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) is gearing up to host the ‘River Festival and Mahajalyatra’ on Saturday as part of their ongoing efforts to spearhead the Bamgati river conservation campaign. Collaborating closely with the Nepal River Conservation Organization and Friends Club, the event aims to raise awareness about the significance of the Bagmati river, while also promoting rafting and water tourism in the Kathmandu Valley.
Shishir Khanal, Vice Chairman of NARA, highlighted the multifaceted purpose of the event. Scheduled to commence at 7:00 am on Saturday from the Bagmati bridge located in Kupandole, Lalitpur, the festival will feature a rafting expedition involving a fleet of 15 boats. Khanal expressed enthusiasm about the event’s potential to shed light on the historical and cultural importance of the Bagmati river, which has deep-rooted social and religious connections within the Kathmandu Valley.
The Bagmati river, embedded with a rich heritage, has long held a pivotal role in the history and culture of the Kathmandu Valley. The campaign’s organizers have been diligent in devising various programs to protect and restore the river’s pristine condition, which has been marred by environmental degradation and urbanization.
The ‘River Festival and Mahajalyatra’ represents a concerted effort by NARA, the Nepal River Conservation Organization, and Friends Club to champion the cause of the Bagmati river’s preservation. By bringing together stakeholders, conservationists, and enthusiasts, the event seeks to inspire collective action towards maintaining the ecological balance and historical significance of the river.
Local communities, environmentalists, and adventure enthusiasts are expected to join hands in this festival, which serves as a unique platform to celebrate the river’s heritage while emphasizing the need for responsible tourism and sustainable conservation practices.
As the sun rises on August 26, all eyes will be on the Bagmati river as it becomes the center stage for both a thrilling rafting experience and a resounding call for preserving Nepal’s natural and cultural legacy.
