Bangladesh PM Hasina Arrives in New Delhi for Modi’s Swearing-In Ceremony
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Saturday, marking her presence ahead of Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony tomorrow. Modi is set to become the Indian Prime Minister for a record third time following the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing a majority in the recent Lok Sabha elections under his leadership. The oath-taking ceremony will be held on Sunday, making Modi the Prime Minister for three consecutive terms.
Sheikh Hasina is the first distinguished guest to arrive in New Delhi for the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. She was warmly received at the airport by Muktesh Pardeshi, Secretary of Consular Passport Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs (CPV and OIA).
Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu officially appointed Modi as the prime minister-designate on Friday. This followed BJP chief J P Nadda presenting her with a letter confirming Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, along with letters of support from NDA leaders.
The swearing-in ceremony for PM-designate Modi is scheduled for June 9 at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The event will be held under stringent security measures, including the deployment of five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, the BJP won 240 seats, slightly below the halfway mark in the 543-member lower house. However, the BJP-led NDA coalition secured 293 seats, achieving a comfortable majority.
