Breakthrough of Arun-3 Hydropower Project: PM Inaugurates, Vows Historic Progress in Nepal’s Energy Sector
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has announced that the government is decisively advancing towards the development of the energy sector, promising that the efforts will create history.
During his address at the ceremony celebrating the breakthrough of the Arun-3 Hydropower Project on Tuesday, PM Prachanda highlighted the government’s strategic focus on energy in the 2024/25 budget, emphasizing the measures taken to attract private investment in this crucial sector.
The Prime Minister disclosed that Nepal is set to add an additional 900 MW of electricity to the national grid, raising the total capacity to 4500 MW. He also reiterated the government’s ambition to begin exporting electricity to Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy trade aspirations.
“The government is committed to effectively implementing the hydropower projects and the transmission line developments included in the budget for the development of the energy sector,” stated PM Prachanda.
Addressing the ongoing challenges, PM Prachanda made a specific appeal to political parties, civil society, and local communities to facilitate the land acquisition process and support the construction of the transmission line for the Arun-3 Project. He assured that the government is earnest in addressing the concerns of the local community and other stakeholders involved in the project.
“The government is serious about addressing the concerns of the local community and stakeholders’ issues,” he affirmed.
The Arun-3 Hydropower Project, once completed, is expected to significantly enhance Nepal’s energy infrastructure and bolster economic growth through increased energy exports.
