Budget Announces Construction of IT Park in Butwal
The government has unveiled new projects for Lumbini Province in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget while continuing existing ones. Finance Minister Barshaman Pun presented the budget for fiscal year 2024/025 during a joint session of the federal parliament on Tuesday.
A key highlight of the budget is the plan to construct an Information Technology (IT) Park in Butwal. This initiative aims to bolster the region’s technological infrastructure and drive economic growth through digital innovation.
Additionally, the budget emphasizes the development of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, into an international birthing hub. This includes the creation of the Buddha Circuit, which will encompass Rupandehi, Kapilbastu, and Nawalparasi districts, promoting tourism and cultural heritage.
Other significant projects include the operationalization of the Motipur Industrial Estate in Rupandehi and the Naubasta Industrial Estate in Banke. The Butwal-Gorusinge and Bhaluwang-Lamahi sections of the highway are set for upgrades, enhancing connectivity and transportation efficiency in the region.
Minister Pun also announced plans to upgrade Rajha Airport in Nepalgunj and Tarigaun Airport in Dang, aiming to improve regional air connectivity. Moreover, Rs 1.6 billion has been allocated for the expansion of the Sikta Irrigation Project, with additional funds earmarked for the Babai Irrigation Project and the Bheri Babai Diversion project, supporting agricultural development and water management.
The budget outlines Lumbini Province’s transformation into a hub for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), fostering local entrepreneurship and economic resilience. A Krishna Sen Ichchhuk Media Village is also planned for Lumbini Province, aimed at enhancing media infrastructure and capacity.
The announcements have been met with optimism from the private sector in Lumbini Province. Tanka Prasad Pokharel, Chairman of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce in Lumbini Province, praised the budget for its focus on the private sector. Similarly, Krishna Sharma, a central committee member and Lumbini Province Coordinator of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), acknowledged the budget’s positive direction but noted the challenges in implementation.
With these new projects, the government aims to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life in Lumbini Province, making it a significant contributor to the nation’s development.
