Cabinet Decisions: DIGs Singh and Bohara Promoted; Key Policy Changes Approved

The government has announced the promotion of Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) Durga Singh and Bharat Bahadur Bohara to the rank of Additional Inspectors General (AIG) of Nepal Police. AIG Singh will now lead the Human Resources Development Department, while AIG Bohara will oversee the Province Coordination Department at Police Headquarters in Kathmandu.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, shared details of several other decisions made during the recent Cabinet meeting. The government has designated Nepal Rastra Bank as the regulatory authority for loans related to the purchase of public vehicles and the Social Security Fund. Similarly, the Transport Management Department will oversee vehicle purchases, and the Securities Board of Nepal will regulate loans extended by investment companies.

The Cabinet has also renewed the Nepal-India Agreement for the Regulation of Passenger Traffic, extending it until November 24, 2025. In addition, permission has been granted to utilize national forest areas in Sankhuwasabha, Udayapur, Dolakha, Dailekh, Kalikot, and Jumla districts for constructing transmission line towers.

In Shivapuri National Park, regulations have been amended to extend the pedestrian track from Mulkharka to Chisapani via Jhule, adding 3.5 km to the existing route. The government has also approved a draft bill to establish and manage the Nepal Aviation Service Authority-2081, which will be presented to the federal parliament.

Other significant decisions include upgrading Pokhariya Hospital in Parsa to a 50-bed facility and transferring it to Madhes Province Hospital. A proposal to amend and integrate laws related to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal-2081 will also be submitted to parliament.

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has been authorized to present the sixth annual report of the Medical Education Commission to the Federal Parliament’s Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee. Additionally, the Cabinet decided to forward a study committee report on securities market operations to the Finance Ministry.

The government has approved land acquisition for various municipalities, including Kalaiya Sub-Metropolis in Bara, Budhanilkantha Municipality in Kathmandu, Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha, Punarbas Municipality in Kanchanpur, and Ekdara Rural Municipality in Mahottari. These decisions signify the government’s efforts to prioritize infrastructure development, regulatory improvements, and institutional progress.
