Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel Wins Vote of Confidence in Karnali Province for Second Time
Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel of Karnali Province has successfully secured a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly for the second time. The vote, held on Monday, was in accordance with Article 188 (2) of the Constitution.
In the 40-member Provincial Assembly, including the Speaker, Chief Minister Kandel received 23 votes in favor of his proposal, while 14 votes were cast against it. One member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Santoshi Shah, was absent from the voting, and Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi remains suspended.
To secure a majority in the province, at least 23 votes are required. Kandel, the CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party leader, was initially appointed as Chief Minister on April 9 and received his first vote of confidence on April 25. He tabled the motion for the second time following the formation of a coalition government between the CPN (UML) and the Nepali Congress after a shift in the power dynamics at the federal level.
Chief Minister Kandel expressed his gratitude to the assembly members for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to working towards the development and prosperity of Karnali Province.
