Chinese Family Escapes CCP-Imposed Hell, Reveals Shocking Abuses and Seeks Democracy

In a harrowing account, a Chinese family that recently fled their homeland sheds light on the oppressive measures imposed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) during three years of stringent COVID-19 lockdowns. The Zheng family, consisting of eight members, arrived in the United States before Christmas last year, recounting tales of persecution, food shortages, and pervasive surveillance that prompted their escape.

The Impact of Stringent Lockdowns

Living over a thousand miles apart during the pandemic, Ms. Zheng and her brother’s family faced severe challenges due to lockdowns. A local fever case triggered a citywide lockdown in Qingdao, leaving Ms. Zheng and her daughter surviving on a small bag of rice and pickled vegetables for over ten days. The whole family endured regular mandatory PCR tests, infringing on their freedom and dignity.

Shanghai, a major metropolis, experienced a two-month strict lockdown, leading to reports of residents starving and patients struggling to access medical treatment. The Zheng family’s ordeal mirrored the widespread impact of stringent measures imposed by the CCP.

Inhumane Treatment and Injustice

Ms. Zheng’s mother suffered a compound fracture in her left wrist when she attempted to leave her home to buy food after a prolonged lockdown. Quarantine staff forcibly pushed her to the ground, leaving her injured. When Ms. Zheng’s elder brother documented the incident with his mobile phone, he faced police violence, handcuffing, and a day-long interrogation. The family had to bear the medical costs, with no avenue for seeking justice in China’s unjust legal system.

Ms. Zheng emphasized the lack of safety, privacy, and dignity, describing China’s law as “unjust” and the communist regime as embracing “authoritarianism.”

Pervasive Surveillance and Fear

The family also detailed the pervasive surveillance that became part of their daily lives. Ms. Zheng’s sister-in-law, fearing retaliation, recounted how the village head in her hometown knew about her flight details, prompting suspicion of monitoring. She described feeling tracked everywhere, refusing to install a police-recommended monitoring app due to concerns about privacy.

Schools also participated in monitoring, requiring parents to install so-called anti-fraud apps and divulge personal information. Ms. Zheng expressed concern about the deteriorating social environment, economic decline, and the safety of her family, mirroring a growing unease among Chinese citizens.

Escape to the United States

In October 2022, the entire Zheng family, including the elderly parents, Ms. Zheng, her brother, his wife, and three children, made the decision to leave China, seeking refuge in the United States. They fled in search of a better life, freedom, and the opportunity to escape the CCP’s oppressive rule.

Advocacy for Democracy

Now residing in the United States, Ms. Zheng feels a duty to raise awareness about the CCP’s persecution and advocate for democracy. She actively participates in pro-democracy events, including symbolic acts like reenacting the infamous chained woman to highlight the plight of those oppressed under CCP rule.

On December 10, she attended the unveiling ceremony of a monument commemorating the “Great Escape to Hong Kong” during the Cultural Revolution. The monument honors survivors who fled communist China, serving as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for true freedom under the CCP.

“The CCP’s persecution of the Chinese people must be stopped,” declares Ms. Zheng, emphasizing the urgency of halting the abuses inflicted by the Chinese Communist Party on its citizens.
