Committee Submits Report to PM Oli Seeking All Tribhuvan University Properties
A government-formed committee, led by former Secretary Sharada Prasad Trital, has submitted its report to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli after conducting a comprehensive search for all moveable and immovable properties of Tribhuvan University (TU) in the Kathmandu Valley.
The committee’s member, Mahendra Thapa, handed over the report to PM Oli in the presence of Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Bidhya Bhattarai and TU office-bearers. The committee was established following a decision made by the Council of Ministers on May 29.
The committee, which included former joint secretaries Mahendra Thapa and Janaki Bhallav Adhikari, as well as Prof Dr Prem Sagar Chapagain, was tasked with identifying and reporting on TU properties, including land at key locations in the Kathmandu Valley such as Kirtipur, Naikap, Dhungeadda, and Patan.
Upon receiving the report, PM Oli, who also serves as the Chancellor of TU, expressed his commitment to implementing the report’s recommendations at the earliest opportunity. He praised the committee for its work, noting that it was led by an efficient individual and that further study would be conducted to address areas not yet covered.
The committee has proposed suggestions regarding the use of TU land and the current state of land plots across the 21 campuses in the Kathmandu Valley. Additionally, the report urges the government to inform the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police about potential misuse of TU land.
The committee’s work focused on cataloging both moveable and immovable properties of TU within the Kathmandu Valley, with an emphasis on identifying any issues related to land management.
