Consensus among 8 parties to support NC candidate in presidential post

Eight parties, including the Maoist Centre, which is leading the government, and the Nepali Congress, which is in the opposition, have decided to support the Nepali Congress candidate for the presidency.

The meeting held at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Friday evening decided to support the Congress candidate.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ proposed to support Nepali Congress, the largest party in the Parliament, in the presidential election. He argued that this will be the beginning of a new political journey.

Prachanda’s proposal has been supported by the Maoists, Janata Samajwadi Party, Unified Socialists, Janmat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and Rashtriye Janamorcha.

Although there is a theoretical decision to support the Nepali Congress candidate, no decision has been made about the individual. The Nepali Congress will hold a meeting tomorrow morning and decide who will be made the president.

The agreement has been forged a day ahead of the filing of candidacy for the new president. The Election Commission has scheduled for 10am to 3pm on Saturday for the nomination.

Two senior Congress leaders- Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula- have emerged as frontrunners as candidates for the post of President.
