CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General-Secretary Janardan Sharma Hails Milestone Agreement on Transitional Justice Bill
CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General-Secretary Janardan Sharma has expressed confidence that the originality and uniqueness of Nepal’s peace process will be recognized globally following a landmark agreement on the bill related to transitional justice reached today by the three major political parties.
Speaking after the agreement, Sharma highlighted the significance of this development, which comes 17 years, eight months, and 11 days after the Comprehensive Peace Accord was signed. He noted that while significant milestones such as Constitution-making and army integration have been achieved, critical issues like justice for conflict survivors, reparation, and reconciliation had faced delays.
“Today, an important agreement has been reached,” Sharma stated. He emphasized the successful facilitation of this agreement on the transitional justice bill, which had been a challenging task due to the need to align with the Supreme Court’s directives.
Sharma acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, experts, and political leaders, including Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, in reaching this consensus. He expressed his belief that this agreement will pave the way for the swift completion of the remaining tasks of the peace process.
“I want to thank everyone who provided suggestions or raised questions, and especially our party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ for entrusting me with this important responsibility,” Sharma said.
The agreement on the transitional justice bill marks a significant step forward in addressing the grievances of conflict survivors and ensuring justice and reconciliation in Nepal.
