Defence Minister Offers Floral Tributes to Kalu Pande

Defence Minister Hari Prasad Upreti visited the cemetery of Kaji Kalu Pande at the Dahachowk area of Chandragiri Municipality-1 on Saturday, offering floral tributes to Pande’s statue. Kalu Pande, a revered figure in Nepalese history, received martyrdom during the first battle of Kirtipur on Jestha 19, 1814 BS.

The Memorial Day event at Dahachowk saw the presence of various dignitaries, including Member of the House of Representatives Krishna Gopal Shrestha, serving and retired generals of the Nepali Army, local government representatives, and local residents. Officials from the Kaji Kalu Pande Memorial Foundation were also in attendance.

The government, in recognition of Kalu Pande’s contributions, constructed a five-storey view tower at his cemetery in 2021, which now stands as a symbol of his enduring legacy.

During the event, Defence Minister Upreti emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring historical figures like Kalu Pande, whose sacrifices have shaped the nation. The ceremony included speeches and discussions on Pande’s significant role in Nepalese history and his enduring influence on the country’s military traditions.

The Memorial Day at Dahachowk served not only as a tribute to Kalu Pande but also as a reminder of the valor and dedication of Nepal’s historical figures, inspiring future generations to uphold these values.
