Dengue Cases Surpass 6,000 Nationwide, Health Ministry Urges Preventive Measures

The number of dengue infections across Nepal has exceeded 6,000, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). The mosquito-borne disease has been detected in every district except for Humla and Mustang, said Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of Vector Control Disease at the Division.

As of now, a total of 6,347 dengue cases have been confirmed in the country, with three reported fatalities. Among the seven provinces, Gandaki Province has been hit the hardest, recording 2,954 cases. In contrast, Karnali Province has the fewest cases, with only 93 reported.

The distribution of dengue cases across other provinces is as follows: 791 cases in Koshi Province, 100 in Madhesh Province, 1,612 in Bagmati Province, 444 in Lumbini Province, and 432 in Sudurpaschim Province. In the Kathmandu Valley, 680 dengue infections have been recorded, with 511 cases in Kathmandu district, 69 in Bhaktapur, and 100 in Lalitpur.

In response to the outbreak, the MoHP has urged the public to actively participate in the ‘Larva Search and Destroy’ campaign to curb the spread of dengue. The government has also announced that it will cover the treatment costs for dengue patients in public healthcare facilities.

In addition to the dengue outbreak, the Division reported 75 cases of cholera across the country. Lalitpur district has seen the highest number of cholera cases, with 50 confirmed, followed by 10 in Kathmandu, eight in Kailali, two in Pyuthan, one in Makawanpur, and four in Rolpa.

The Ministry continues to monitor both dengue and cholera outbreaks and is working to prevent further spread of these diseases.
