Dengue Control Poses Significant Challenge in Koshi Province, Say Health Experts
Health professionals and representatives from relevant agencies have expressed growing concern over the challenges of controlling dengue in Koshi Province, where the mosquito-borne disease has infected 582 people in the last four months.
This alarming situation was discussed during a dengue control program organized by the Province Health Ministry on Wednesday. The event, held in the presence of local government chiefs and deputy chiefs from Morang and other stakeholders, highlighted the rising number of cases and the difficulties in managing the outbreak.
So far, one person has succumbed to dengue in the province, with 334 new cases reported between July 16 and August 13 alone.
Dr. Shiva Kumar Shrestha, Director of the Dhankuta-based Health Directorate, provided a breakdown of the cases across different districts: Morang reported the highest number of infections with 199 cases, followed by Jhapa with 33 cases, Dhankuta with 32, Sankhuwasabha with 30, Bhojpur with 25, Okhaldhunga with 10, Khotang with three, and Tehrathum with two cases.
Letang Municipality in Morang has been particularly hard-hit, with 310 reported cases, according to Deputy Mayor Krishna Kumari Niraula.
The increasing spread of dengue in the province has raised concerns among health officials and local authorities, who are now focusing on intensifying control measures to prevent further transmission of the virus.
