Devotees Flock to Krishna Temple in Patan to Celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami

Devotees have been gathering in large numbers at the Krishna Temple in Patan, Lalitpur, since early this morning to worship Lord Krishna on the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. This day, celebrated with great reverence across Nepal by followers of the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion, marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, the proponent of Knowledge Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga.

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna was born at midnight on Bhadrakrishna Ashtami during the Dwapar era, making today ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ and the night ‘Mohratri.’ Devotees offer worship at Krishna temples nationwide, reciting hymns and scriptures, and many stay awake throughout the night in devotion.

As the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna is revered for protecting humanity from injustice, tyranny, and evil forces. His life and teachings, especially as documented in the ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta,’ inspire people to perform good deeds and uphold the truth. The Bhagwat Geeta is considered one of the holiest books in Hindu mythology and has been translated into more languages than any other religious text.

To manage the large influx of worshippers, lines have been organized on the south and north sides of the Krishna Temple in Patan. Nepal Scouts volunteers and Lalitpur Metropolitan Police personnel have been mobilized to ensure the orderly movement of devotees. The temple is a focal point of today’s celebrations, as thousands gather to honor Lord Krishna and seek his blessings.
