Diplomatic Community Cheers Nepal’s New Year 2081

As Nepal welcomes New Year 2081 according to the Bikram Sambat calendar, the diplomatic community in Kathmandu is joining in the festivities. They’re sharing warm wishes and messages of friendship to mark this special occasion, adding to the joyous atmosphere across the nation.

Bikram Sambat is an eternal calendar, for it runs synchronously with Sun’s motion and state. Bikram Sambat incorporates both the features of Shak Sambat and practical aspects of Gregorian Calendar. The BS was introduced after 3,044 years since the beginning of Kali Yuga.

The Embassy of India, through its official social media platform, X, extended warm New Year wishes, marking the beginning of Baisakh 1 in the year 2081 BS.

U.S. Ambassador Dean R. Thompson, in a post on social media platform X, wrote, “Happy New Year to all my Nepali friends! Wishing you good health, good fortune, and prosperity in the new year. May the friendship between the U.S. and Nepal grow even stronger in the year ahead!”

Felicity Volk, the Australian Ambassador to Nepal, shared a video on the official X account of the Australian Embassy in Nepal to extend New Year greetings. She also wrote a caption to the video, “Happy New Year 2081 to all Nepalis from the heart of the Mithila civilization, a place famous for its diverse cultures, religions, languages, literature, and arts. Happy New Year.”

In a video message, British Ambassador Rob Fenn conveyed his sincere wishes, emphasizing the unity and harmony encapsulated in the spirit of the New Year. The message was posted on the official “UK in Nepal” handle with the caption, “The British Embassy family wishes all Nepalis a Happy New Year 2081. Here’s a message from Ambassador Rob Fenn.”

Dr. Danielle Meuwly Monteleone, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, also conveyed New Year greetings through the social media platform X, stating, “Wishing everyone a joyous and prosperous Nepali New Year 2081! May this auspicious occasion usher in abundance, harmony, and happiness for all.”

Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo of the European Union joined in the chorus of well-wishes, extending warm regards for a prosperous New Year from the EU Delegation team.

As the day comes to a close and celebrations carry on, the messages from the diplomatic community remind us of the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nepal and the international community.
