Dr. Bhim Rawal Criticizes UML’s Decision to Expel Him as Inconsistent with Party Rules
Former CPN (UML) leader Dr. Bhim Bahadur Rawal has condemned the party’s decision to expel him, asserting that the action violates the party’s statute, the rule of law, and procedural norms. The UML recently annulled his general membership, a move Rawal described as retaliation for his candidacy against the party Chair in the 11th General Convention.
Speaking at his first press conference since the expulsion, Dr. Rawal accused the party leadership of taking vindictive action, undermining democratic principles within the organization. The former Vice Chairperson announced his intention to launch a “Motherland Awareness Campaign,” pledging to work in alignment with the feedback and aspirations of his supporters and the broader public.
The UML Secretariat decided on December 25 to expel Dr. Rawal, who has previously served in several high-ranking government positions, including Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Minister for Home Affairs, and Minister for Defence.
Identifying himself as a “nationalist leader,” Dr. Rawal highlighted his decades-long dedication to the country, its sovereignty, and the principles of the UML. He recalled his leadership journey, which began in 2032 BS, emphasizing his commitment to the party and the people despite significant challenges.
The expulsion has sparked debate within and beyond the party, with some questioning the leadership’s adherence to internal rules and democratic practices. Dr. Rawal’s next steps will be closely watched as he embarks on his new campaign.
