Dr S Jaishankar Set to Arrive in Nepal for 7th Joint Commission Talks

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar is scheduled to make an upcoming visit to Nepal to take part in the forthcoming meeting of the Nepal-India Ministerial Joint Commission. The event is set to transpire in Kathmandu and will mark the seventh gathering of the India-Nepal Joint Commission. This bilateral mechanism, operating under the guidance of foreign ministers, is vested with the responsibility of comprehensively reviewing the entire spectrum of Nepal-India bilateral relations.

While an official announcement of Jaishankar’s visit is yet to be confirmed, the anticipated timeframe for the visit is October. The discussions during the meeting are anticipated to encompass a wide array of collaborative aspects, spanning across areas such as connectivity, trade and economy, energy cooperation, and management of water resources.

The recent BIMSTEC retreat, hosted in Bangkok, saw Nepal’s Foreign Minister NP Saud engage in a discussion with his Indian counterpart. The deliberations centered on forging a closer working relationship to bolster bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Looking back, the sixth iteration of the Joint Commission, co-chaired by Jaishankar and the then Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, was convened on January 15, 2021, in New Delhi.
