Dr. Shashank Koirala Warns of Potential Autocracy in Nepal
Dr. Shashank Koirala, a Central Committee Member of the Nepali Congress, has raised concerns that a coalition between the country’s two major political parties could pave the way for an autocratic regime.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Koirala emphasized the necessity of a strong opposition to maintain political balance.
“There is a fear of autocratic rule if two major parties unite. Balance must be maintained, and a strong opposition is equally necessary,” he stated.
Koirala highlighted the importance of adhering to the constitution and making necessary amendments to ensure progress.
Additionally, he reiterated his support for a Hindu president, noting that he has brought up this issue in both the Central Committee and the General Assembly meetings.
“It’s not just my personal interest in a Hindu nation; I have also raised this issue in the Central Committee and the Mahasamiti meeting. Currently, we are seeking a stable government,” he added.
