Durbar High School Introduces Robotics and Coding Education

Durbar High School, a historical institution in Kathmandu, has kicked off its Robotics and Coding classes as part of the innovative ‘Book Free Friday’ program initiated by the Kathmandu Municipal Corporation. This pioneering initiative aims to equip students with crucial technological skills while fostering a love for learning.

Under this program, students ranging from Grades 3 to 6 are diving into the world of coding, learning the fundamentals that power digital technologies. Meanwhile, students in Grades 7 and 8 are delving into the realm of Python programming, a powerful language widely used in the tech industry.

The curriculum has been thoughtfully tailored to suit the age groups and learning capacities of the students. Shailendra Jha, assistant expert of the KMC Urban Planning Commission, revealed that the school is also running classes on robotics and artificial intelligence, providing students with an opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the future.

Notably, coding clubs have been established in 14 schools across Kathmandu, forming a network that extends to more than 160 countries worldwide. These clubs are aimed at nurturing students’ technical prowess, helping them develop the skills needed to tackle a range of challenges through robotics, AI, and coding.

Sarada Paudel, the school’s principal, enthusiastically shared that the students have embraced this new subject with great enthusiasm. The initiative is seen as a step towards enhancing the technical aptitude of students, enabling them to solve real-world problems in innovative ways.

To further bolster this technological drive, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City is collaborating with ‘Digital and Beyond’ to introduce students and teachers to the latest tools and technologies. This collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between traditional education and the rapidly evolving world of technology.

Since May of last year, the KMC has been conducting a series of engaging extracurricular activities every Friday across all 89 schools. This initiative aligns with the core objective of imparting essential life skills to students, preparing them for a dynamic and tech-driven future. As Durbar High School blazes a trail in tech education, students and educators alike are embracing the opportunities presented by these forward-thinking classes.
