Education Bill will be passed with amendments: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has assured that the School Education Bill, currently under review in the Federal Parliament, will be passed with necessary amendments. Addressing a workshop organized by the Samajbadi Educational Forum on ‘Nepal’s Educational Movement and School Education Bill,’ the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of enriching the bill further through amendments.

He highlighted that discussions regarding the bill have been held with both ruling coalition partners and opposition parties. Prime Minister Dahal emphasized that amendments will be made based on proposals submitted in parliament, incorporating feedback from various stakeholders including teachers, trade unions, academicians, students’ organizations, and parents.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to honoring past agreements with teachers’ associations and other stakeholders. He urged for a positive narrative to counter brain drain, stressing the importance of producing competitive and high-quality human resources.

In terms of educational development, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the need to focus on quality, competitiveness, and innovation. He highlighted the importance of meritocracy, stating that appointments in academic institutions, including universities, will be based on merit. Additionally, he mentioned the enforcement of reward and punishment mechanisms to drive qualitative improvements in the education sector.

During the event, CPN (Unified Socialist) Vice President Rajendra Pandey suggested that the forum should prioritize discussions on socialism-oriented education, indicating a broader scope for educational debates.
