A tragic incident occurred in Salleri, the headquarters of Solukhumbu, where an employee of the electricity office died due to electrocution. The incident also left three others injured.
The deceased has been identified as Bishnu Rai, 43, a senior technician with the Salleri Chalsa Electricity Company. According to the Provincial Police Office in Biratnagar, Rai was electrocuted while trimming trees near electric wires on Saturday afternoon.
Provincial Police Chief DIG Chandra Kuver Khapung confirmed the details of the accident, highlighting the dangers faced by workers handling high-voltage lines.
The injured individuals include 30-year-old Buddhi Rajbhandari, a technical assistant at the electricity company, 34-year-old Tashi Sherpa, and 51-year-old Kumar Basnet, who was working as a wage earner. All three were immediately rushed to the District Hospital Faplu for treatment. Memkumari Maskey, the financial officer of the company, provided updates on their condition.
Tashi Sherpa, one of the injured, recounted the incident, explaining that the workers were cutting trees around a high-tension line of the 630-kilowatt capacity electricity company when the electricity unexpectedly surged through the wires. The workers were unaware of the current flow and were electrocuted upon contact with the wires.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the sudden electricity flow and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
