Washington– The Embassy of Nepal in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has successfully rescued three stranded Nepali nationals – Ms. Sersang Tamang, Ms. Tirtha Lama Waiba, and Ms. Yangjen Sherpa – who had been stranded in Trinidad and Tobago for over a month.

Ms. Sersang Tamang’s journey to reunite with her homeland commenced on August 21, 2023, and she is expected to touch down in Kathmandu on August 23, 2023. Likewise, Ms. Tirtha Lama Waiba and Ms. Yangjen Sherpa are set to depart from Trinidad and Tobago on August 24, 2023, with their arrival in Kathmandu anticipated on August 26, 2023. These individuals had encountered an unexpected setback, as their return flight to Nepal was abruptly canceled upon their arrival in Trinidad and Tobago, resulting in complex immigration status issues.

The Embassy of Nepal conveys its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for their unwavering cooperation throughout this entire rescue operation. The embassy also extends its appreciation to Mr. Tej Bahadur Lama in Trinidad and Tobago, whose communication played a pivotal role in keeping the embassy informed about the situation faced by these stranded Nepali nationals.

As a proactive measure, the Embassy of Nepal urges Nepali nationals who intend to visit Caribbean countries for tourism or other purposes to exercise due diligence. It is crucial for travelers to ensure that the purpose of their visit aligns with the category of visa issued to them. This precautionary approach will undoubtedly contribute to smoother travel experiences and minimize potential disruptions.

The collaborative effort between the Embassy of Nepal and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago serves as a testament to the power of international cooperation in times of need. The successful rescue of these stranded Nepali nationals underscores the commitment of both nations to the well-being and safety of all individuals within their borders.
