Energy Minister Khadka Heads to India for 7th International Solar Alliance Summit
Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, departed for India today to represent Nepal at the 7th International Solar Alliance (ISA) summit, which will take place in New Delhi from November 3 to 6. Minister Khadka’s delegation left Kathmandu at 3:00 pm, joining participants from around the world to discuss advancements in solar energy and international climate goals.
The International Solar Alliance, launched during the COP-21 Paris Agreement session in 2015, brings together leaders from 120 nations committed to expanding solar energy as a clean, renewable resource. The conference agenda includes expanding global access to solar power, ensuring energy security, and accelerating renewable energy development—a crucial topic for Nepal, which aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.
An estimated $1,000 billion investment will be mobilized through ISA initiatives, creating opportunities for countries like Nepal to support sustainable energy transitions. Discussions will also focus on electing a new ISA executive committee to oversee the alliance’s projects and strategies.
Accompanying Minister Khadka are senior energy expert Prabal Adhikari, Navin Raj Singh, Director General at the Department of Electricity Development, and Minister Khadka’s financial advisor, Amit Shrestha. The delegation aims to engage in ISA’s initiatives that align with Nepal’s renewable energy goals and climate commitments.
