Fast Track Project: Cost and Length Reduced as DPR Gets Revised

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh Fast Track (Expressway) has undergone a revision, leading to a reduction in both the project’s cost and length. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, unveiled the revised document, highlighting the positive outcomes it is poised to deliver for this crucial road project.

During a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers, a decision was reached to revise the DPR for the expressway. This revision translates into a notable decrease of Rs 2 billion in the overall project cost. The reevaluation has brought down the estimated cost to Rs 211 billion.

One of the key factors contributing to this cost reduction is the integration of a tunnel within the project design. This strategic alteration has not only shortened the length of the expressway but has also consequently led to a decrease in its overall expenses.

The Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh Fast Track Project is a collaborative endeavor with oversight by the Nepali Army. Commencing on April 25, 2017, the project has made significant strides, reporting a project completion status of 25.54 percent to date. The ambitious timeline for project completion is set for mid-April 2027.

Initially, the project was envisioned to require a budget of Rs 213.09 billion. However, through meticulous assessment and revisions, the current reduction in cost stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to optimizing resources and ensuring the efficient realization of this vital infrastructure endeavor.
