Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel Emphasizes Result-Oriented Investments to Boost Economic Growth
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel has highlighted the government’s focus on achieving economic growth through strategic investments in high-potential projects. During a meeting today with Teresa Daban Sanchez, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) resident representative for Nepal, Minister Paudel underscored the importance of selecting projects based on a comprehensive assessment of their benefits and costs, ensuring effective management of investments.
Minister Paudel reiterated the government’s commitment to carefully evaluating loans and prioritizing investments in projects that promise significant returns. He also expressed dedication to implementing the policy reforms recommended during the fourth review of the IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) for Nepal and assured continued cooperation with the IMF for the upcoming fifth review.
The IMF representative, Teresa Daban Sanchez, noted Nepal’s strong potential in the hydropower and tourism sectors. She advised that capital expenditure focused on result-based areas would contribute significantly to increasing the country’s economic growth and expanding the size of the economy.
The government’s budget for the current fiscal year targets a six-percent economic growth, reflecting its commitment to fostering sustainable economic development through strategic and well-managed investments.
