Nepal has witnessed a significant increase in foreign tourist arrivals, with a 21.22% rise recorded in the first seven months of 2024. According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board, the country welcomed 647,615 foreign tourists from January to July this year, compared to 534,207 during the same period in 2023.
The influx of tourists began strong in January with 79,100 arrivals, followed by a notable increase in February to 97,426. March saw 128,000 visitors, and the numbers continued to rise with 100,067 in April, 111,376 in May, and 90,211 in June. In July, 64,599 tourists visited Nepal, marking an almost 12% increase from the previous month.
Comparing July 2024 to July 2023, the arrival of foreign tourists increased by 11.9%. Last July, 75,726 tourists visited Nepal, up from 64,599 this year. Historical data from the Nepal Tourism Board shows that in July 2022, Nepal received 44,462 tourists, while in July 2021, the number was 3,633, and in July 2020, only 196 tourists arrived due to the pandemic.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepal recorded 70,916 foreign tourist arrivals in July 2019. The current surge in arrivals reflects a robust recovery and growing interest in Nepal as a travel destination.
