Former Parliament Speaker Mahara Denies Involvement in Gold Smuggling Case

Krishna Bahadur Mahara, former Speaker of the Parliament and Vice Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), has reiterated his stance of non-involvement in the gold smuggling case that led to his recent arrest.

Currently undergoing medical treatment at Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu following his arrest, Mahara provided his statement to the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Thursday.

Mahara’s arrest came amidst suspicions linking him to a gold smuggling operation, following recommendations from the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission to file a case against him.

In compliance with the court’s order, the CIB is presently investigating the case, allowing Mahara to undergo treatment at the hospital.
