Former Telecom Head Sunil Poudel Sentenced to Nine Years for Corruption
Sunil Poudel, the former Executive Director of the National Information Technology Center and the ex-Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in a corruption scandal involving the National Payment Gateway. The verdict was passed by a joint bench of the Special Court, which included Chairman Tek Narayan Kuwar and Member Murari Babu Shrestha.
The court also imposed a hefty fine of Rs 230,758,077 on Poudel after finding him guilty in the proceedings that concluded on April 19. In contrast, Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini and eight other individuals were acquitted of all charges related to the case. The decision marks a significant development in Nepal’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption in its governmental institutions.
