Government Announces Plan to Construct National Cricket Stadium
Kathmandu, Nov 8: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has unveiled plans for the government to construct a cricket stadium, designating it as a project of national pride.
During an event held on Tuesday to honor the Nepali national men’s cricket team for their qualification for the 2024 T20 cricket World Cup, the Prime Minister shared his intentions. He declared, “The government will soon announce a cricket stadium to be built as a project of national pride.”
Additionally, Prime Minister Prachanda lauded the Nepali cricket team for elevating Nepal’s standing at the international level through their exceptional performance. He noted, “After a decade, Nepal has qualified for the T20 World Cup. We urge you to continue your hard work.”
The Prime Minister acknowledged that the popularity of cricket among Nepalis, particularly the youth, has been on the rise. He expressed that this growing interest has motivated the government to provide greater support to the players and to develop more sports infrastructure.
He emphasized the significance of the sports sector in enhancing the country’s reputation and acknowledged the vital role that cricket plays within it. Prime Minister Prachanda also announced plans to accelerate the construction of cricket stadiums in Bharatpur, Mulpani, and Kirtipur.
Furthermore, he recognized that the delay in awarding prizes to the cricketers, intended as an incentive, was due to certain legal and procedural obstacles. He assured the government’s commitment to addressing these issues and preventing future delays.
Captain of the Nepali cricket team, Rohit Paudel, expressed his excitement about the government’s emphasis on cricket. He expressed his gratitude for the government’s efforts, particularly in improving infrastructure at the TU cricket stadium, and voiced confidence that the remaining work would be completed promptly.
The Prime Minister’s announcement underscores the growing enthusiasm for cricket in Nepal and the government’s commitment to developing the sport and its associated facilities, with the goal of enhancing the country’s reputation on the international stage.
