Government Plans to Modernize Agriculture, Focus on Maize Production

In a bid to revamp the agricultural sector, the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Jwala Kumari Sah, has announced plans for a comprehensive policy aimed at modernizing agriculture, with a particular focus on maize production.

Speaking at the ‘Maize Summit’ held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Sah highlighted maize’s significant contribution as the second-largest produced crop in the country after paddy. She emphasized the need to uplift corn production while ensuring recognition, encouragement, and support for genuine farmers.

Minister Sah expressed concerns over the declining trend in maize production, describing the situation as “devastating” and on the brink of collapse. She underscored her leadership in crafting a modernized agriculture policy to address these challenges.

“The government is actively working on incorporating programs to encourage and boost maize cultivation within the upcoming agriculture policy,” Minister Sah stated. “It’s crucial to not only benefit farmers but also to instill enthusiasm among the general public towards modernized agriculture.”

As the government gears up to finalize the agriculture policy, efforts to promote and enhance maize cultivation across the country remain at the forefront of the agenda, aiming to rejuvenate the agricultural landscape and ensure sustainable growth.
