Government Urges Swift Action to Prevent Disease Outbreaks and Manage Earthquake Aftermath
In the wake of a recent earthquake, the government has issued a call to action, urging relevant bodies to prioritize measures for preventing potential disease outbreaks, addressing malnutrition, and managing psycho-social issues in the affected areas. Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, a spokesperson for the Ministry, confirmed that they have called upon all concerned agencies to take immediate action in this regard.
A three-member team from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has been dispatched to assess the risk of disease outbreaks in coordination with the provinces in the earthquake-affected regions. Their mission is to ensure a swift and effective response to potential health crises.
The Ministry has further informed the public that individuals injured in the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks are currently receiving medical treatment. Local health posts and hospitals, as well as provincial hospitals in the affected districts, are providing essential medical care to those in need. Notably, 19 patients are under treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Surkhet, 46 at the Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj, eight at the TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, and one at the National Trauma Centre. The government remains committed to addressing the needs of those affected by the earthquake and is taking proactive steps to prevent additional health concerns from arising.
