Health Minister Inspects Tribhuvan International Airport to Address Mpox Risk
Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel conducted an on-site inspection at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to assess measures in place to prevent the spread of Mpox in Nepal. During his visit on Wednesday, the Minister engaged with relevant authorities, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance at the country’s primary air entry point.
The Ministry of Health has established health desks at TIA to screen passengers and curb the risk of Mpox transmission. Minister Paudel assured officials, including airlines, civil aviation officers, immigration staff, and airport security personnel, of the Ministry’s full support in this effort.
“We are committed to preventing the spread of Mpox among citizens and airport personnel,” he said, urging stakeholders to communicate any challenges promptly for immediate resolution.
The inspection follows reports of two Nepali citizens recently diagnosed with Mpox after returning from Saudi Arabia. While one individual has recovered and returned home, the other is undergoing treatment at the Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Ministry has reiterated its dedication to safeguarding public health and ensuring swift responses to emerging health threats.
