Health Ministry Assures Public: No Need to Panic Over HMPV

The Ministry of Health and Population has addressed concerns regarding the Human Metapneumo Virus (HMPV) reported in China, reassuring the public that it is a common virus and there is no cause for alarm.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry dismissed misinformation circulating on media platforms and social networks, urging people to rely only on verified information.

“It is common to see an increase in respiratory illnesses during the winter season. HMPV is not a new virus; it is a common cold-causing virus that has previously been observed in Nepal. The country is equipped with testing, monitoring, and recovery measures for this virus,” the statement clarified.

The Ministry emphasized that the risk of severe health issues from HMPV remains low, with vulnerable groups—such as individuals with weakened immunity, children, and senior citizens—being the most at risk.

In response, the Ministry has intensified monitoring and alertness through the Department of Health Services, hospitals, and laboratories, ensuring a robust response mechanism is in place.

Authorities have called on the public to remain calm and vigilant while adhering to general health precautions to mitigate the spread of respiratory infections.
